Palette and Chisel

The Palette & Chisel  has graciously agreed to be our home-base for the seminar again this year!


When they agreed to be our home-base last year, I was new to the city and hadn’t heard of them. But believe me, it was certainly my loss!

Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts is a rich resource for the urban artist. They offer courses in fine arts from oil to sculpture, watercolor to basic drawing. Members can use the historic building at will and both members and non-members are welcome during 60 hours of open studio time with live models each week!

They’ve been serious about art for over a century! Palette & Chisel club was formed in 1895 as a way for artists of all types to be able to work from live models. They’ve been housed in an 1870’s mansion since 1921 and within the past few decades they’ve begun offering classes. That 1870’s mansion is what we’ll call headquarters at the seminar this July.

Several Urban Sketchers have told me how much they value their memberships at Palette & Chisel and I am personally looking forward to the next time I can make it for open-studio hours. Thankfully, there are plenty of opportunities every week!



Registration is now open!


We are happy to announce that registration for the 2015 Sketch Seminar is now open!

Below a link for registration is provided. After you have completed this registration form, you will receive an invoice from Paypal at the email address you provide. Please send your payment promptly. If you do not pay the invoice within 48 hours, your registration will be cancelled.

If you would like to join us for dinner on Saturday evening (not covered by registration costs) please select it when registering. This is in addition to the four workshops and/or activities you may select.

Please carefully read the instructions before attempting to register:

1) Highlight a workshop/activity you want to attend and CLICK “Select” (dark blue button on bottom right). You will see a little shopping cart icon next to the workshop you have chosen.


2) Repeat for each workshop/activity you wish to attend. The limit, of course, is FOUR, for four different time frames (if you will attend the dinner, that will be a total of five choices). If you choose two workshops or activities for the same time frame, one will be removed from your selection before you receive your invoice for payment. A duplicate activity or workshop will be removed at random, so please choose carefully!!


3) After you have chosen your 4 workshops and/or activities, please proceed to checkout by clicking the light green button, “Proceed.” (in the bottom right)


4) Review your selected workshops and/or activities carefully. If they are correct, click the green “Book now” button.

5) Follow all directions given by the site until you receive your Confirmation ID. DO NOT use an email address you do not check – this is how we will send you an invoice.

NOTE: Payment will not be accepted on this site. You will receive a PayPal invoice by the end of the day on which you register. The invoice will request payment within 48 hours. IF YOUR PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN 48 HOURS, your reservation will be cancelled and you may or may not be able to re-register for your chosen workshops, depending on availability.
